몇 주 전 롱위캔드에 말레이시아 데사루로 여행 다녀왔답니다. 데사루는 한국분들에게는 잘 알려지지 않은 곳이지만, 싱가포르 사람들이나 말레이시아 조호바루 한달 살기 하시는 분들은 많이 가는 휴양지랍니다. 조호바루 시내쪽에서 동쪽으로 한 시간 정도 소요되는 곳이고요. 싱가포르에서 가는 법은 페리 또는 육로를 통해 갈 수 있어요.
이번 포스팅은 이번 여행에서 묵었던 하드락 호텔 데사루 코스트입니다.
A few weeks ago, our family traveled to Desaru in Malaysia on a long weekend. Desaru is not well-known among Koreans, but it's a popular resort destination for people from Singapore or those who spend a month living in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. It's about an hour's journey east from the city center of Johor Bahru. You can reach Desaru from Singapore by ferry or by road.
In this post, I will be discussing the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, where I stayed during this trip.

데사루 가족 여행가시는 분들이 가는 호텔들은 딱 정해져 있더라고요.
최고급 아난타라와 원앤온리, 가족단위 웨스틴과 하드락
이렇게 네개 호텔에 많이들 가시는 것 같더라고요. 하난타라와 원앤온리는 하루 백만원~2백만원 수준으로 저희 예산 초과니 패스하고, 웨스틴과 하드락 중에 고민했었는데요. 주변에서 많이들 추천한 곳이 웨스틴이라 웨스틴으로 계획하고 있었는데요. 저희가 다녀온 기간이 완전 연휴라 그런지 3주 전쯤 예약하려고 하니 웨스틴에 백만원짜리 스위트룸 말고는 매진인 거예요 ㅎㄷㄷ^^;;; 그래서 어쩔 수 없이 가게 된 하드락호텔이랍니다.
결론부터 말하자면, 저희 가족과 함께간 친구가족까지 하드락에서 있길 아주 잘했다며, 너무 만족했던 호텔이랍니다.
하드락 호텔의 위치는 웨스틴호텔과 붙어있고요. 데사루 코스트, 페리 선착장으로 가는 무료 셔틀버스가 있어서 근처에서 이동하는 데는 불편하지 않았답니다.
There seemed to be a set list of hotels that people usually choose when they visit Desaru.
The luxury options are Anantara and One&Only, and for most of families, there are The Westin and Hard Rock.
It seems like many people tend to choose one of these four hotels. Anantara and One&Only were beyond our budget, costing around USD 1,000~2,000 per day, so we decided to pass on them. We were considering between The Westin and Hard Rock. Since The Westin was highly recommended by people around us, we had initially planned to stay there. However, when we tried to make a reservation about three weeks before our visit, except for the suite at The Westin, everything was sold out. So, we had no choice but to go with the Hard Rock Hotel.
Both our family and our friends' family, who came along with us, were extremely satisfied with the Hard Rock Hotel.
The Hard Rock Hotel is located adjacent to The Westin Hotel. There is a free shuttle bus that goes to Desaru Coast and the ferry terminal, so it was convenient for getting around in the vicinity.
체크인 / Check-in
저희가 갔을땐 싱가포르 롱위캔드로 다들 휴가온건지 북적북적 호텔이 정말 붐비더라고요. 저희는 3시 체크인 시간에 맞춰서 도착했는데요. 체크인하는데도 오래 걸렸고, 룸 준비되는 것도 30분 이상 걸렸답니다.
When we went, the hotel really crowded with people on a long weekend vacation. We arrived around 3 o'clock, which was the check-in time, but even the check-in process took a long time, and it took more than 30 mins for the room to be ready.
원래 처음 예약했을때는 룸마다 워터파크 티켓을 2장씩 제공한다고 했었는데요. 저희가 갔을 때 얼마 전에 시작한 프로모션이라면서 공홈으로 예약한 경우 객실투숙객 인원수만큼 워터파크 티켓을 준다고 하더라고요. 올레!!
별 기대없었으나, 어른도 애들도 너무 즐거웠던 워터파크 이용기과 꿀팁들은 다음 포스팅으로 작성해 볼게요 :)
Originally, when we made the initial reservation, they mentioned that they would provide two water park tickets per room. However, when we arrived, they said that a promotion had started recently, and if you booked through the official website, they would provide water park tickets for the number of guests staying in the room. It was a pleasant surprise!
Although we didn't have high expectations, both adults and children had a great time at the water park. I will write about our enjoyable experience and some helpful tips in the next post.

If you book through the official website, they provide water park tickets based on the number of guests staying in the room. If the price difference is not significant compared to other hotel booking sites, I recommend making the reservation through the official website.
체크인할 때 받은 웰컴드링크는 로비층에 위치한 pool옆의 GMT+8 바에서 마실 수 있답니다. 워터파크가 정면에 보이는 뷰가 좋은 자리에 앉아서 룸이 준비될 때까지 마셨어요. 맛은... 그냥 (불량식품) 음료느낌이라 애들이 좋아했네요^^;
The welcome drink that we received during check-in could be served at the GMT+8 bar located next to the pool on the lobby floor. We sat in a seat with a great view of the water park and enjoyed our drinks until the room was ready. As for the taste... it was just like any other, but the kids loved it!
침실 및 침구 / Bedroom and Bedding
저희가 배정받은 룸은 301호.
로비층에 위치한 첫번째 룸이었는데요. 모든 사람들이 다니는 엘리베이터 옆에 위치해서 낮에는 아주 시끄럽긴 했지만, 사실 이용하는 데는 왔다 갔다 하기 너무 편했어요.
The room we were assigned to was Room 301.
It was the first room on the lobby floor, located right next to the elevator that everyone used. It could get quite noisy during the day, but in terms of convenience, it was really easy to come and go.

A view of the room from the entrance. It had a king-size bed and a two-person table. The first impression was that it was a relatively clean room.
동남아 호텔은 워낙 습하다 보니 어떤 좋은 호텔을 가도 특유의 꿉꿉한 침구는 어쩔 수 없는데요. 하드락 호텔도 들어오자마자 꿉꿉한건 어쩔수 없네요. 3인으로 예약했는데, 킹사이즈 침대 하나였고요. 언제나처럼 저희는 애가 아직 어려서 셋이 자는 데는 괜찮았어요. 침구 컨디션도 깨끗했고요.
In Southeast Asian hotels, it's inevitable that the bedding can feel damp due to the humidity. When we entered the Hard Rock Hotel, we did feel the dampness. We had made a reservation for three people, and there was one king-size bed. As always, since our child is still young, it was fine for the three of us to sleep together. The bedding was also clean and in good condition.

저희와 함께 갔던 가족은 한 단계 윗등급룸인 4인 디럭스로 예약했는데요. 저희와 룸 인테리어도 크기도 완전히 똑같고, 층수가 달라서 전망만 달랐어요. 4명으로 예약했는데 엑스트라 베드가 추가되어 있지 않아서, 추가비용(약 5만 원/일) 내고 베드를 추가했답니다. 슈페리어와 디럭스룸 타입 고민하시는 분들 기본룸인 슈페리어로 예약하세요^^;
아이 2명 포함 4인 예약 시, 아고다/호텔스닷컴은 3인까지만 가능하다고 예약 불가로 뜨지만, 공홈을 통해 선택하시면 예약가능하답니다.
As of June 2023,
The family who went with us booked a higher-tier room, a 4-person Deluxe room. However, the room interior and size were exactly the same as ours, with the only difference being the view due to the different floors. Since they made a reservation for four people, there was no extra bed included, so they had to pay an additional fee (around USD50 per day) to add a bed. For those considering between the Superior and Deluxe room types, I recommend booking the basic Superior room.
When making a reservation for four people, including two children, Agoda/Hotels.com may show as "reservation not available" as they only allow bookings for up to three people. However, if you book through the official website, it is possible to make the reservation.
하드락 호텔은 처음 이용해 봤는데요. 침구에 이렇게 귀여운 심볼이 박혀있더라고요. 너무 귀여워요!

욕실 / Bathroom
욕실 세면대는 하나. 샤워부스만 있는 구조랍니다. 어메니티는 기본적인 것들은 준비되어 있고, 샴푸/린스/바디/로션은 대용량으로 준비되어 있었답니다. 브랜드는 하드락호텔 전체적으로 사용하는 어메니티인 것 같았고요. 사용해보지는 않았지만, 바디용품은 자몽향처럼 상큼한 향이 괜찮았답니다. 뜨거운 물, 수압도 모두 좋았네요.
가장 편리했고, 신기했던 점은 방마다 욕실에 정수기가 설치되어 있었어요. 일회용 물을 제공하는 것 대신에 방마다 정수기를 설치하여 깐깐하게 관리하고 있다고 하더라고요. 저희도 정수기에서 물 받아서 잘 사용했답니다.
There was only one sink in the bathroom, and consisted of a shower booth. Basic amenities were provided, and the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion were all available in large bottles. It seemed to be the brand of amenities used throughout the Hard Rock Hotel. Although I didn't try them, the body products had a fresh scent like pleasant grapefruit. The hot water and water pressure were both good.
The most convenient and impressive aspect was that each room had a water purifier installed in the bathroom. Instead of providing disposable water bottles, they installed water purifiers in each room to ensure strict hygiene. We also used the water from the purifier and found it very convenient.
화장실에 이렇게 전신 거울이 있는 것은 룸 이용할 때 정말 편하잖아요. 옷장 바로 옆에 전신거울이 있었답니다.
Having a full-length mirror in the bathroom is really convenient when using the room. There was a full-length mirror right next to the wardrobe.
전망 / View
저희가 이용한 슈페리어룸은 로비가 있는 3층. 저층이라, 초록초록 나무가 한눈에 보였답니다. 더워서 나가지는 않았지만, 바깥 테라스도 있었고요.
저희와 함께 여행한 4명 가족은 한 단계 윗급인 디럭스룸을 이용했는데요. 디럭스룸은 슈페리어룸과 디자인도 크기도 모두 동일하지만, 5층 높은 층에 위치하여, 전망이 조금 더 낫더라고요. 사실 바깥을 볼일이 많지 않아서, 큰 의미는 없었던 것 같아요. 슈페리어와 디럭스 중에 고민하시는 분들이라면, 그냥 디럭스룸으로 예약하시는 것을 추천합니다.
The superior room we stayed in was on the 3rd floor, where the lobby is located. Being on a lower floor, we had a clear view of the lush green trees. Although it was too hot to go outside, there was a terrace available as well.
The family of four who traveled with us stayed in a deluxe room, which was one level higher than the superior room. The design and size of the deluxe room were the same as the superior room, but it was located on the 5th floor, offering slightly better views. However, since we didn't spend much time looking outside, it didn't make a significant difference. If you are contemplating between the superior and deluxe rooms, I would recommend simply booking the deluxe room.
기타 / Miscellaneous
객실 내 미니바는 기본적인 것들이 준비되어 있었답니다. 가장 특이했던 점은 룸마다 reuse텀블러가 두 개 있었고, 화장실 세면대 옆에 있는 정수기에서 물을 받아 마시는 시스템이었어요.
저희는 아이들이 어려서 물통을 들고 다녀서 따로 텀블러를 사용하지 않았지만, 오다가다 보니 많은 분들이 텀블러 들고 다니셨어요.
The mini-bar in the room had basic items available. The most unique aspect was that there were two reusable tumblers in each room, and we could get drinking water from the water purifier at the bathroom sink.
Since our children were young and we carried water bottles separately, we didn't use the tumblers. However, many other guests were carrying the tumblers with them as they moved around.
이번 저희 여행은 마침 저희와 함께 여행한 가족의 기념일이었는데요. 체크인할 때 물어보니, 하드락호텔은 룸에 미리 준비해 놓는 케이크 대신에 이렇게 호텔 내에서 이용가능한 쿠폰을 제공한답니다. 실제로 사용 가능한 곳은 3개(카페/로비 bar/하드락샵) 중 두 군데에 가면 준비된 선물을 받을 수 있었답니다. 저희는 Rock Shop에서 키체인과 Grind카페에서 초콜릿 케이크를 이용했었답니다.
This trip happened to coincide with the anniversary of the family we traveled with. Instead of providing a pre-prepared cake in the room, Hard Rock Hotel offers coupons that can be used within the hotel. There were three designated locations (cafe, lobby bar, Hard Rock Shop) where we could redeem the prepared gifts. We utilized the coupon to get a keychain from the Rock Shop and enjoyed a chocolate cake at Grind Cafe.
워터파크가 붙어있기도 했고, 저희는 이틀간 일정이라 수영장을 이용할 시간은 없었어요. 아이들을 데리고는 키즈풀이 따로 없어서, 구명조끼나 튜브를 챙겨 오셔야 할 것 같아요. 수영장 사이즈는 풀 하나로 작은 편이었답니다.
오히려 저희는 아이들은 (유료긴 하지만) 키즈클럽에 맡기는 게 더 좋았어요. 저희가 갔을 때 키즈클럽에서 오후 4시부터는 바깥 워터플레이 타임이더라고요. 아이들 수영복 입혀서 일부러 키즈클럽 보내는 분들도 많았어요.
The size of the hotel pool wasn't particularly large, we didn't have time to use the pool. There wasn't a separate kids' pool, so it would be advisable to bring life jackets or tubes for the kids. The pool itself was relatively small, as it consisted of only one pool.
Interestingly, we found it more convenient to send the kids (for an additional fee) to the Kids Club. When we visited, the Kids Club had outdoor water playtime starting from 4 PM. Many parents dressed their children in swimsuits and sent them to the Kids Club for the water play.
추가로 조식은 정말 별로였어요 :( 우선 조식이 대부분 포함되어 있는 룸들이다 보니, 가족단위 사람들이 많아서 (저희도 아이들이 있어서 마찬가지였지만요) 아주 시끄럽고 붐벼요. 7시 반부터 사람이 많아서 줄을 서야 하고요. 무엇보다 음식이 별로였어요:( 동선도 별로였고요. 아무리 먹을 게 없어도 기본적으로 절대 실패하지 않는 누들스테이션과 오믈렛스테이션이 너무 별로였어요..... OTL 누들스테이션은 스프를 대량으로 끓여놓고 이미 끓여놓은 국수에 스프만 더해주는 방식이었고요. 오믈렛 스테이션은 한분이 한 번에 한 개씩 만드는 시스템이라 기본 20-30분씩 기다리는 게 일반적이었어요:(
저흰 안쪽이 너무 붐벼서 바깥에 앉았는데 아이들은 잔디밭에서 뛰어놀기는 좋았네요.
Also, we were disappointed with the breakfast. First of all, since breakfast was included in most room packages, there were a lots of families (including us), making it very noisy and crowded. The place became busy from 7:30 AM, and we had to wait in line. Most importantly, the food was bad... The layout and flow were not well organized. There wasn't much to eat, also the noodle station and omelette station were disappointing. The noodle station had only soup added to the pre-cooked noodles upon request. The omelette station operated on a system where one person made one omelette at a time, resulting in wait times of 20-30 mins to get it. We ended up sitting outside because the inside was too crowded, and it was nice for the children to play on the grassy lawn.

우선 워터파크를 가실 분들 그리고 아이들과 함께이신 분들은 전체적으로 나쁘지 않은 호텔이었어요. 우선 대부분 가족단위 여행객이 많아서 아주 kids-friendly 한 느낌이었고요. 특히, 나중에 작성할 데사루 워터파크에서 in-out이 자유로워 너무 편했어요. 아이들 데리고 워터파크 가실 분들은 하드락호텔 강추합니다. 데사루 코스트나 페리 선착장까지 무료 셔틀도 잘 되어있었고요.
가장 불편했던 점은 가족 단위 호텔이지만, 방음이 되지 않는다는 점과 밤 11시까지 pool 쪽에서 라이브공연이 아주 시끄러웠는데요. 다행히 저희 애들은 다 잘 자는 애들이기도 했고, 여행 내내 너무 피곤한 덕분에 일찍이부터 아주 잘 자긴 했어요.
First of all, for those who plan to visit the water park and those traveling with kids, the hotel was overall not bad. It had a family-friendly atmosphere, as most of the guests were families.
Especially for those who plan to visit the Desaru Water Park, the in-out access was very convenient. I highly recommend Hard Rock Hotel for those who are going to the water park with kids. The hotel also provided a free shuttle to Desaru Coast and the ferry terminal, which was well-organized.
The most inconvenient aspect was that although it is a family-oriented hotel, the soundproofing was not sufficient, and the live performances at the pool area were very noisy until 11 PM. Fortunately, all of our kids are good sleepers, and thanks to being tired throughout the trip, they managed to sleep well early on.
