페낭여행에서 여행객들이 가는 곳은 크게 역사와 전통을 자랑하는 조지타운과 해양 스포츠를 잔뜩 느낄 수 있는 바투페링기 두 곳이랍니다. 바투페링기는 페낭에서도 좀 더 휴양지 느낌 가득한 호텔들과 야시장 등으로 조지타운과 비교했을 때 좀 더 관광지 느낌이 가득한 곳이었답니다. 그중에서도 바닷가에 있어 관광객뿐 아니라 현지 주민들에게도 인기가 있다는 바투페링기 비치의 필수코스 스타벅스에 다녀왔습니다.
In Penang, the places that tourists visit are mainly George Town, which boasts history and tradition, and Batu Ferringhi, where you can experience a lot of water sports. Among them, Batu Ferringhi has more of a touristy feel compared to George Town, with its hotels and night markets offer a resort atmosphere. Among them, I visited the must-visit Starbucks located on Batu Ferringhi Beach, which is popular not only among tourists but also among locals.

페낭까지 와서 스타벅스를 꼭 가야 해?! 란 표정으로 호텔에서부터 구글맵으로 걸어가던 남편이지만, 동남아 느낌 가득한 특별한 느낌으로 당연히 들러봅니다. 만인의 사랑 스타벅스는 페낭핫플이네요.
My husbby looked at me with a skeptical expression and asked if we really had to go to Starbucks after coming all the way to Penang. However, with a unique Southeast Asian atmosphere, we naturally had to make a stop. Starbucks is a hotspot in Penang.
입구 / Entrance
바투 페링기는 모두의 머릿속에 있는 에메랄드빛 바닷가는 아니지만, 하늘이 너무 예쁘고 바닷가 중간중간에 있는 나무들이 특이하면서도 뭔가 모를 촌스러움이 사랑스럽게 느껴지는 따뜻한 느낌의 바닷가였답니다.
Batu Ferringhi may not be the picture-perfect emerald beach in everyone's mind, but it has a warm and cozy feeling with a beautiful sky and unique trees scattered throughout the beach, giving it a quaint charm that feels lovely.
바투페링기 스타벅스는 도로 쪽에서 차로 들어오는 정문 입구와 바닷가에서 바로 들어가는 뒤편 입구 두 개가 있답니다. 바닷가 쪽에는 스타벅스만의 상징 초록 표지판이 있으니, 바닷가 걸으면서 스타벅스는 한눈에 찾을 수 있었어요. 차 가지고 오시는 분들은 스타벅스 주차장이 꽤나 넉넉하게 넓은 편이니 이곳에 주차하시면 될 것 같아요.
Batu Ferringhi Starbucks has two entrances: one at the main entrance for cars coming from the road, and another at the back entrance directly accessible from the beach. On the beach side, there is a distinctive green Starbucks sign, so it was easy to find Starbucks while walking along the beach. For those driving, the Starbucks parking lot is quite spacious, so you can park there without any issues.
실내 / Indoor
보통 스타벅스 치고 넓은 편인 것 같은데도 워낙 사람이 많아 주문하고 커피 받는 데까지 약 30분이 소요되었답니다. 실내좌석뿐 아니라 바깥 좌석도 있는데요. 나중에 보니 바닷가 쪽 야외부스에서도 커피 주문이 가능하더라고요. 사람도 없이 조용하게 주문 가능하니 실내에 사람이 많으면, 야외 부스에서 커피 주문하세요.
Even though the Starbucks at Batu Ferringhi is relatively spacious compared to other locations, it was quite crowded, and it took about 30 minutes from ordering to receiving the coffee. They have indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. Later, I realized that you can also order coffee from the outdoor booth facing the beach. It was quiet and empty there, so if the indoor area is crowded, I recommend ordering your coffee from the outdoor booth.
다양한 굿즈를 판매하고 있었어요. 커피를 주문하는 곳 외에 옆쪽에 작은 공간으로 굿즈만 구입 가능한 매장도 별도로 있었고요. 다녀오신 분들 후기 보니 중간중간 특별히 예쁜 굿즈 득템하신 분들도 있으시던데, 저희가 갔을 때는 페낭/말레이 머그잔 말고는 싱가포르와 다르지 않았답니다.
They had a variety of goods for sale. In addition to the counter where you order coffee, there was a separate small area dedicated to selling goods only. I read reviews from people who visited and some of them managed to find particularly beautiful merchandise. However, when we went, it wasn't much different from Singapore except for the Penang/Malaysia mugs.

커피는 한국과 싱가포르보다 훨~씬 저렴했답니다. 따뜻한 아메리카 톨사이즈 기준 MYR8.5(약 2,500원) 수준으로 반값정도 되나요? 말레이 스타벅스의 신기한 점은 브런치 메뉴가 있었는데요. 라자냐, 맥엔치즈 같은 웨스턴 메뉴도 있었지만, 치킨요리인 Ayam Percik이나, ayam salam masak lemak 같은 로컬 음식이 있다는 점이 되게 특이했네요. 마치, 한국 스타벅스에서 김밥을 파는 느낌이랄까요? 하하핳
The coffee at Batu Ferringhi Starbucks was much cheaper compared to Korea and Singapore. The price for a regular-sized hot Americano was around MYR 8.5 (about USD2), which is about half the price. The interesting thing about Starbucks in Malaysia is that they have a brunch menu. They not only offer Western dishes like lasagna and mac and cheese but also local dishes such as Ayam Percik and Ayam Salam Masak Lemak. It was quite unusual to see local dishes at a Starbucks, almost like seeing gimbap being sold at a Korean Starbucks. lol

바닷가 쪽 야외로 나오면 뒤편으로 올라가는 계단이 있답니다. 계단을 두 번 올라서 3층까지 올라가시면 정면 바닷가를 볼 수 있는 좌석이 몇 개 있어요. 거기서 해질녘 바닷가 커피 한잔과 함께 여유롭게 즐겨보세요.
If you go out to the outdoor area by the beach, there are stairs at the back that lead up to the third floor. There are a few seats where you can see the beach directly in front of you. Climb the stairs twice to get to the third floor and enjoy a cup of coffee by the beach during sunset.
바닷가에 위치한 매장이라 내부로 들어가기 전 발 씻는 곳이 있었어요. 워낙 인기 명소(?!)이다 보니, 바닷가에 있던 분들은 (커피를 안 마셔도) 꼭 들러서 구경하고 가시더라고요. 저희도 줄이 꽤 길어 한참 기다렸던 것 같아요. 스타벅스를 입장하기 위한 발을 씻는 곳이라니. 어디서도 볼 수 없는 재밌는 광경이었답니다.
There was a foot-washing area before entering the indoor area of the store since it's located by the beach. As it was a popular spot for everyone, even those who were just at the beach (even if they didn't drink coffee) would stop by and take a look. We also waited in a fairly long line. It was an interesting sight to see a foot-washing area before entering Starbucks. It was something you wouldn't see anywhere else.
꿀팁 / Useful Tip
1. 실내에서 주문하면 대부분의 경우 아주 긴 편입니다. 바닷가 쪽 야외 부스를 이용하여 주문하세요.
2. 페낭 선셋 명당, 바투 페링기 일몰 명당은 야외 좌석 3층으로 올라가서 보세요. 테이블이 몇 개 없어 조용히 테이블에 앉아 커피 한잔 마시며 여유롭게 바닷가 노을을 즐길 수 있답니다.
정면 나무에 가려 바다로 넘어가는 건 살짝 비켜 보이니, 노을 가득 빨갛게 물든 하늘은 스타벅스 윗편에서 보다 해가 완전히 넘어갈 때쯤 바닷가로 나가서 보세요.
3. 해변에서 모래 가득 묻은 발, 스타벅스에 들러서 가볍게 씻고 가세요! 바닷가 쪽으로 연결되는 뒷문에 발 씻는 곳이 있답니다
1. Ordering inside the store usually takes a very long time. Use the outdoor booth by the beach to place your order.
2. For a fantastic Penang sunset or Batu Ferringhi sunset experience, go up to the third floor outdoor seating area. There aren't many tables, so you can sit quietly at a table, enjoy a cup of coffee, and leisurely admire the beach sunset.
On the third-loor seating area, there is a tree that may partially obstruct the view of the sun completely setting into the sea. So, if you want to fully enjoy the vibrant red sky at sunset, it's better to first see it from the upper area of Starbucks where the tree doesn't obstruct the view. Then, when the sun has completely set, you can head down to the beach to continue admiring the view.
3. If your feet are covered in sand from the beach, stop by Starbucks and give them a quick wash! There is a foot-washing area near the back door that leads to the beach.
위치가 워낙 좋은 곳에 있어서 많은 사람들의 필수코스가 되었지만, 일부러 스타벅스를 위해서 멀리서 오기에는 특별함은 없었던 곳이었던 것 같아요. 하지만, 바투페링기 비치에 오시거나 근처에 오실 일이 있다면 꼭 일몰시간 즈음 시간 맞춰서 오시면 정말 편하게 아름다운 노을을 보실 수 있을 것 같답니다.
Although the location is so great that it has become a must-visit place for many people, it didn't seem to have any special charm for people to come from far away just for Starbucks. However, if you happen to visit Batu Ferringhi Beach or nearby, it would be great to come around sunset time to comfortably enjoy the beautiful sunset.
