한국처럼 싱가포르 역시 5월 1일은 노동절로 인해 롱위캔드였답니다. 롱위캔드를 집에서 심심하게 보낼 수는 없잖아요 :)
지난 주말 저희 가족은 말레이시아 페낭에 다녀왔습니다. 3일 전의 급한 결정과 긴 연휴로 항공권 가격은 당연히 아주 비싸더라고요. 여러 곳을 알아보다 그나마 가장 합리적(?!)인 가격이 페낭으로 떠나는 파이어플라이항공이었답니다.

Like Korea, Singapore also had a public holiday for Labor Day on May 1st, which is also known as Long Weekends. We can't just spend the Long Weekend at home being bored, right? :)
Last weekend, my family and I visited Penang, Malaysia. Due to the sudden decision and the long weekend, the flight ticket prices were naturally very expensive. After searching through many options, we found that the most reasonable (?!?) price was with Firefly Airlines, which is a low-cost airline under Malaysia Airlines.

싱가포르에서 페낭은 비행기로 1시간 30분 정도 소요될 정도로 가까운 거리랍니다. 해당 편은 늦은 밤 비행기라 페낭에 밤 11시즈음 도착한답니다.
Penang is a relatively close distance from Singapore, taking about 1 hour and 30 minutes by plane. Our flight was a late-night one, so we arrived in Penang around 11 PM.
체크인 & 탑승 / Check-in & Boarding
대부분의 저가항공들처럼 수화물은 추가로 구입해야 했어요. 저희는 3인 가족이니 넉넉하게 20kg을 구입하였고요. 이것저것 넣는다고 넣었는데도 3박 4일 짧은 여행이라 짐이 많지는 않았네요:)
저희가 이용한 FY3665편은 말레이시아 항공과 공동운항으로 운항되었습니다.
Like most low-lost airlines, we had to purchase checked baggage separately. Since there were three of us in the family, we bought 20kg to be safe. Even though we packed quite a bit of stuff, it wasn't too much since it was only a three-night, four-day trip :)
The FY3665 flight we took was operated in partnership with Malaysia Airlines.

싱가포르 창이공항에서 비행기를 이용할 때마다 신기했던 부분은 출국장으로 나가면서 짐 검사를 하는 게 아니라 비행기를 탑승하기 전 게이트 입구에서 검사 후 비행기 탑승을 할 수 있어요. 물론 그렇다 보니, 창이공항에서의 출국수속은 다른 공항에서보다 언제나 모든 게 빠르다고 느껴지는 것도 사실이고요.
Whenever I use a flight from Singapore's Changi Airport, one thing that always amazes me is that baggage screening is done at the gate entrance before boarding the flight, instead of at the departure area. Of course, this means that the departure process at Changi Airport always feels faster compared to other airports.

창이공항은 게이트 탑승 전 짐 검사를 진행하다 보니 다른 공항처럼 출국장에서 구입한 물, 주스 등의 액체류 반입이 게이트에서부터 불가해요. 출국장에서 기내에서 마실 액체류 미리 구입하지 마세요. 음료는 기내에서 제공하는 것만 드실 수 있답니다.
As Changi Airport conducts baggage screening at the gate before boarding, liquids such as water or juice purchased after passing through the departure area cannot be brought onboard. So, don't buy any beverages to drink on the plane at the departure area. You can only consume liquids that are provided on the plane.

저희가 탑승했던 FY3665편은 3-3 배열의 보잉 737-800 기종을 이용하였답니다. 처음 이용해 보는 항공사다 보니 너무 작은 비행기일까 봐 걱정했던 게 무색할 만큼 쾌적했답니다.
We flew on flight FY3665 which used a Boeing 737-800 with a 3-3 seat configuration. Since it was our first time flying with this airline, we were a bit worried that the plane would be too small, but it turned out to be very comfortable.
오래되지 않은 비행기인지 USB코드도 자리마다 내장되어 있었고요. 자리는 160cm(가 조금 안 되는) 꼬꼬마 저에게는 불편함이 없었지만, 180cm(가 조금 안 되는) 저희 집 아저씨는 살짝 불편해 보이긴 하더라고요. 물론, 110cm의 저희 집 꼬맹이는 아주 편리하게 앉아서 갈 수 있었어요. 비행기는 정말 깨끗하고 쾌적했답니다.
The plane was relatively new and had USB ports built into each seat. The legroom was comfortable for me, who is around 160cm tall, but my hubby who is around 180cm looked a bit uncomfortable. Of course, our little one who is 110cm tall had no problem sitting comfortably. The plane was very clean and pleasant.
기내식 / In-flight Meal
짧은 비행거리였지만, 간단한 기내식은 사전에 온라인으로 주문이 가능했고, 기내에서도 판매하고 있었어요. 저희는 늦은 시간이라 저녁을 공항에서 먹고 탔는데요. 비싼 물가를 자랑하는 싱가포르인 만큼 기내식이 공항보다 더 저렴하다는 점:)
Although it was a short flight, we were able to order a simple meal online in advance, and it was also available for purchase on board. We ate dinner at the airport before boarding since it was a late flight, but it was interesting to note that the in-flight meal was cheaper than the airport food, which is known for its expensive prices in Singapore.
다양한 항공사를 이용하기 시작하면서부터 올해부터 저희가 모으기로 결정한 항공사 별 키홀더도 기내에서 구입했어요. 원화로 2000원 좀 넘게 줬네요.
Since we started using various airlines, we decided to buy a keychain with the airline logo for each airline we fly with, and we were able to purchase one on board for a little over KRW2,000 (around US$2).
기타 / Miscellaneous
안녕 싱가포르. 우리 좀만 놀다 올게. 하늘에서 보는 싱가포르는 한눈에 다 보일 정도로 작은 나라죠.

동남아에서 비행기 탈 때마다 좀 신기한 건데요. (정확히 뭔진 잘 모르겠습니다만) 모기퇴치제 같아요. 비행기 도착할 때쯤 승무원이 스프레이를 가득 뿌려요.
Something interesting that happens when we take a flight in Southeast Asia (not sure what exactly it is) is that flight attendants spray mosquito repellent before landing.
그리고 저희는 페낭국제공항에 도착했답니다. 예상시간보다 일찍 10시 30분쯤 도착했던 것 같아요. 싱가포르에서 페낭까지 실제 하늘에 있었던 시간은 1시간도 안 되는 느낌일 정도로 가깝게 느껴지는 곳이네요. 페낭 공항에 도착하니 파이어플라이항공기가 많았답니다.
We arrived at Penang International Airport about 10:30 pm, earlier than expected. The flight from Singapore to Penang feels like it's a very short distance, taking less than an hour. There were many Firefly airlines at Penang airport.
태어난 지 얼마 되지 않았던 100일부터 저희 부부의 여행 대부분을 함께한 만 4살 저희 집 큰 꼬맹이는 이제 프로여행러랍니다. 저녁 9시면 기절하는 그지만, 새로운 곳에서의 여행이 저희보다 더 신난다네요.
페낭공항은 아주 작았답니다. 늦은 밤 조용한 공항에서 말레이시아로의 입국 시에는 며칠간 머무는지만 간단하게 물었고요. 아주 빠르게 입국하여 수화물이 나오는 데까지 15분 이상 기다렸답니다.
Our 4-year-old child has been traveling with us since about 100 days after birth and is now a professional traveler. Even though he falls asleep at 9pm, he enjoys traveling to new places more than we do.
Penang Airport was very small. Upon entering Malaysia, we were only asked how many days we would be staying. We went through immigration quickly and waited about 15 minutes for our luggage.
총평 / Overall
한국에서는 생소한 항공사라 비행기티켓 구입할 때부터 고민이 많았는데요. 실제 탑승하고는 오히려 그동안 이용했던 다른 저가항공사들보다 훨씬 쾌적하고 지연도 없어서 좋았어요. 랜딩 시 너무 스무스하게 내리셨던 기장님까지 저희 가족은 만족도가 아주 높은 비행이었답니다.
Overall, we were hesitant about purchasing tickets from a lesser-nown airline in Korea, but it turned out to be a very pleasant and on-time flight, even more so than other low-cost carriers we've flown with in the past. The landing was very smooth, and our family was very satisfied with the flight.
